I am not a fan of Facebook, but I thought there was already chat in Facebook, so why would people use this? I don't mean to sound rude, just wondering that's all.

Good question.

Quick and dirty: Facebook chat is 1-to-1 right now, your can also only ever chat with people within your own network.

Zoom Chat is built on Jabber/XMPP (facebook will be too soon) so when you create a zoomnation account and add a facebook friend, your actually adding that to a future network that will help centralize all your chat contacts. In the future you can expect to see zoomchat on myspace and all the other networks and be able to centralized your chat contacts, using whatever interface you want (thanks to jabber)

Zoom Chat has group chat, again nothing new to chat, but definitely new to Facebook. It also supports public persistent chat rooms like IRC or yahoo chat, so you could login talk to 100 people about iphones or something ha. The interface is Flash/Flex based so you'll see a ton of things integrated that are relatively tough to pull of with a js app. So lots of drag and drop, animations, advanced UI elements, and bunch of other cool features like Jail time, animated booting, and eye candy stuff.

Ah okay, that sounds cool. That's probably one of the only apps I'd use if I returned to my Facebook account.

It's a shame the network has (in my opinion) been ruined by all the rubbish applications people have made, I don't want to be bitten by a zombie, or take a quiz on how well I know someone, and I especially don't want notifications about every time someone does it. I personally think they should have some sort of process like Apple are having with the applications store for iPhones to cut out the chaff.

Yea, I think a lot of people are feeling the same way about Facebook Applications. There is a lot of garbage apps out there, and they get spread because they're spammy. Fortunately and yet unfortunately at the same time Facebook has made lots of changes to the way profiles work and how many people you can invite. As of recently facebook only allows you to invite so many people based on a bunch of math. So if 40 users denied an invitation, 30 accepted, 4 blocked, your daily invite allowance will be limited. They've also added things like "See more profile boxes" etc. And if you check out some of the scrnshots of the redesigned profile it's clear facebook has designed them to try and force application to be useful, or get out of the way.

So hopefully apps will get better, I know personally I've declined and blocked soo many applications, they only ones I have up are Twitter, Big Photo, and ZoomChat. PackRat is pretty wicked too (from iconBuffet)
